Stars, Hearts or Flowers? Find Your Favorite Little Motif

Quick question: if you could sprinkle one tiny shape all over a notebook cover, which would it be? Stars, hearts, or flowers? There is no wrong answer, and choosing “all three” is absolutely allowed.

Little motifs can make ordinary things feel extra cheerful. A star on a pencil case, a heart on a handmade card, or a flower doodled in the corner of a page can give a whole design its personality. Let’s play a tiny style game and see where your imagination goes.

Round one: choose your little shape

Stars: Imagine a sleepy moon, a sky full of twinkles, and a notebook for your biggest ideas. Would your stars be tiny and neat, big and bold, or scattered everywhere like confetti?

Hearts: Picture a friendship note, a kind message, or a little reminder of someone you care about. Your hearts could be perfectly matching or all different shapes. Wonky hand-drawn hearts count too.

Flowers: Think of a make-believe garden with no rules about what can grow. Giant daisies? Mini blossoms? Flowers with rainbow petals? This is your garden, so you get to decide.

Round two: give it a color story

Now choose two colors for your shape and one for the background. You could try lilac stars on cream, pink hearts on pale blue, or yellow flowers on soft green. Those are just starting ideas. A black-and-white doodle can be lovely too.

If you have paper and coloring supplies, draw the same shape three times with different combinations. Notice which one catches your eye first. Sometimes changing the background makes the whole design feel different, even when the little shape stays exactly the same.

Round three: pick its perfect place

Would your motif belong on a bookmark, a birthday card, a gift tag, or the front of a pretend magazine? Choose one and sketch a tiny version. You do not need to make anything perfect. The fun part is seeing an idea become something you can look at.

Try repeating the shape around the edge, then leaving one big version in the middle. Or make a mixed pattern with your second-favorite motif. Stars and flowers can be friends.

A little inspiration break

If you want to browse more shapes, peek at Moon & Stars, Rainbows & Hearts, or Butterflies & Blooms. Look for the details you enjoy, such as rounded edges, tiny accents, or surprising color pairings.

You do not need to buy anything to play this game. Save your favorite ideas in a drawing or a few words, then come back another day and choose again. Your answer might change with your mood, and that is part of the fun.

Today’s tiny challenge: invent a name for your finished pattern. “Sleepy Star Garden” and “Heart Confetti” are already good places to start. What will yours be?
